How to Choose the Best Dog Collar that is Right for Your Pup.
Maybe you just have a old collar that just isn’t nice to look at anymore, or maybe you just got yourself a new large breed dog, or maybe your hunt for a new collar has always been a task that’s annoying. Don’t worry we all have been there! Bigger dogs need to have wide strong durable collars that is so important. Giant Breeds can be a struggle to find collars. We train our dogs for agility and for recreation on a regular basis. A quick side release buckle is so important to get off and on easily. The quick release buckle is imperative for also saving a dogs life if they get tangled in something and you need to free them immediately. Regular buckle belt collars are not going to get off as quick in a stressful situation.
So what about collar width? Many people with large and extra large dogs are still using 1 inch standard wide collars which is completely fine, but some should consider a wider dog collar if you have a giant breed or even a large breed. Depending on the breed you can use different widths to help have more control of your dog during the walk. If your training a new pup or have an eager beaver on your hands that is still giving you trouble you can also consider a martingale collar. A martingale collar is a great alternative to the typical choke chain collar that many people buy in retail stores. Martingale collars allow you to walk the pup in training without fear of the dog slipping out of the collar or training leash loop. Many people are not aware of martingales as they are a unique item in the dog world. Many people use them for breeds that have fragile long thinner necks that want less pressure such as a standard poodle, greyhound, or afghan. So if these breed owners are using them for softer pressure why shouldn’t you consider using it for your pup regardless of your dog breed too! In my opinion, all breeds mixed and purebreds can use a martingale.
